it's been a crazy day. i did my "final exercise" in news editing class... pretty painless. now i have no final exam in there -- one down! went and claimed my free pair of nike flops from coach's office, putzed around for awhile, ate lenoir sushi for lunch sitting on a bench outside carroll because it was beeeeautiful outside, then went in for my LAST CLASS EVER. that, too, was surprisingly painless, especially considering that it's documentary photo, a class i was honestly and truly worried about failing most of the semester. i turned in my final CD, and pat didn't even try to make me cry today.

went for a milkshake at sutton's with LC after class, then to the gap. we were trying to come up with something "classic chapel hill" to do on the last day of classes. considering we did the sutton's/gap trip at least once a week for probably like 2 years, we figured it was appropriate. i think i said, "i never have to go to school again. i never have to get up for class ever again ever." and other variations on this theme about 8 zillion times as it sank in. (it still hasn't.)

the super day got worse when i got a little overzealous in my laundry-doing (haha, you said doing!) and dropped in the shorts i had been wearing all day... and realized after i changed my clothes that i couldn't find my cell phone. sure enough, right in the middle of the agitation cycle (appropriate name this time), i opened the lid of the washer... my shorts were floating right on top. i picked them up, and plop! found my cell phone. it was horribly waterlogged and completely ruined. i rushed off to the sprint store. (thinking about it now, that was a really stupid idea. it was during rush hour and took me like 40 minutes to get there, where they told me, "was it insured? then we can't do anything. you just have to buy a new one." if i had thought for about 10 seconds, i probably could have predicted that would be their response.) i guess i felt like i had to rush it off to the hospital or do something to try to revive it. it was my friend, and now it's dead. :(

so, i wasted several hours mourning and searching on eBay for a new one. i'm trying to pay less than $80 and get an awesome (color? camera?) flip phone. if you see any deals, send them my way.

forgot to order graduation announcements. i am so good at life. here:

ANNOUNCEMENT: i'm graduating may 9th. (send $$)

then i signed on blogger, and there was a special offer for active blogger users to try out gmail, google's new email service. obviously, i signed up for it, not only because i need a new webmail address that hopefully won't be entirely infested by spam, but also because it's supposed to be supércool. give it a try: carolynhack at gmail.com. handy timing, since my UNC address will expire in 6 monthsish.

tonight is the last senior night at he's not. B-E-E-R.

if the hubble space telescope can take a picture of something that is 30 million light years away, why don't we know if there is intelligent life on other planets? with a telescope like that, we should be able to peek into their living room windows.

so i was wasting time reading people's blogs, and i found this on ivona's and felt like trying it. my result was neat, so here it is:

Pick up the nearest book.
Turn to the 23rd page.
Type the fifth sentence here:

"They like that best of all because it came from the heart."

that was from my photojournalism textbook, of all places. ("witness in our time" by ken light) try it out and leave a comment.
