you may be wondering why the homepage has suddenly turned grey. well, february 24th is grey tuesday, a day of internet protest against major record labels, in particular EMI. DJ danger mouse's "the grey album," which mixes jay-z's black album with the beatles' white album has been banned from record stores and the airwaves, because EMI, who retains the copyright to the beatles' white album, did not grant danger mouse the sampling rights. the grey album obviously does not serve as any sort of substitute for the white album, and would not affect EMI's profits from sales of this album. in fact, if anything, it would probably increase awareness and appreciation for the white album and boost sales. so, i'm joining the downhill battle for using copyright law as it was intended, to protect artists' interests while still encouraging innovation in art and music.
